Jason Segel was born as the son of Jill and Alvin. While his mother is a housewife, his father works as a lawyer. Segel is younger than his brother named Adam and also has a sister named Alison, to whom he is elder by six years. Besides his love for Disneyland, he has a passion for playing the piano and is a fan of classic rock and reggae music.

Jason was brought up in Pacific Palisades, California, where he studied at an Episcopal Church-affiliated school, despite having been raised in Jewish religion. After completing his elementary school education, Jason went on to study at Harvard-Westlake School, where he completed his middle and high school studies. There his great height helped him to become a member of the state champion boys’ basketball team.

It was during his high school days itself that Jason aspired to become an actor and hence acted in the local theater productions at Palisades Playhouse. His first appearance on television was in an episode of the TV show, Comedy Central Canned Ham. He has since performed various roles on TV show like, Freaks and Greeks, Undeclared, Alias, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and How I Met Your Mother, etc.

Jason is also known as an actor of repute in the movie world. His awesome performances on the big screen have been for movies like, Dead Man on Campus, New Jersey Turnpikes, Certainly Not a Fairytale, The Good Humor Man, Bye Bye Benjamin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I Love You, Man etc.

In addition he has also worked as a writer for Forgetting Sarah Marshall and an upcoming movie Get Him to the Greek, which is currently being filmed. Moreover, Jason has also contributed in the soundtrack of Freaks and Greeks, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, How I Met Your Mother and I Love You, Man.

Jason has till now, won nominations to three prestigious awards. In 2000, he along with his co-stars was nominated for Young Artist Awards under the category of Best Performance in a TV Series – Young Ensemble, for Freaks and Greeks. In 2008, he was nominated for Teen Choice Awards, under the category of Choice Movie Breakout Male, for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In 2009, he shared the nomination for an MTV Movie Award with Kristen Bell, under the category of Best WTF Moment, for Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Role In How I Met Your Mother

In How I Met Your Mother, Jason plays the role of Marshall Eriksen. He had been a college mate of Ted and Lily and later married Lily. He became a lawyer because of his interest in environmental protection laws. After working with a corporate law firm, he later joined Goliath National Bank’s legal team, where Barney also is an employee. Marshall is also a very good sportsman and has a great liking for highly for food and paranormal happenings, specifically Sasquatch and Loch Ness.
